Step 1
Select a domain name
A domain name is a unique identifier that will be used to
identify you or your business online. Let's say you wanted to
start a business and call it "My Widgets," then you would
want to purchase the domain so that your customers could find
you at a web address like www.MyWidgets.com
Hundreds of thousands of domain names are bought everyday.
Sometimes you'll find your preferred name right away; other
times, you'll find that your domain has been purchased by
someone else. This is why we've made it easy for you to look for
a domain. Our search function lists available alternative
domains to the one you've selected, as well as shows you a
variety of different domain endings (like .org, .net, .info,
.us, etc.) that are available for sale. In the industry, domain
endings are called top level domains (TLD's) and while most
people know .com, .org, .edu, .gov and .net, would you believe
that there are nearly a hundred others? Some TLD's have
restrictions for ownership, but for the most part, any of them
will get you online.

Once you have purchased this domain name, you have reserved
your online space. If you type your address into a browser, you
will be pointed to this location, but until you put something
there, it will remain empty. We can compare buying a domain to
purchasing real estate: now you own the land but to make a home
there, now you need to build on it. |
